What Is a Discount Calculator?

A Discount Calculator helps you determine how much money is removed from an original price when a percentage discount is applied.

It also shows the final price after the discount and the total amount saved.

  • Enter the original price of the product or service.
  • Enter the discount percentage.
  • You can also use one of the quick discount buttons.
  • Click Calculate Discount.

Discount Formula

A percentage discount can be calculated using a simple formula.

Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount

Discount Calculation Example

Suppose an item has an original price of 1,000 and is available at a 25% discount.

The discount amount is 250, so the final price becomes 750.

In this example, the total saving is 250.

Common Uses

  • Shopping sale calculations.
  • Online store discounts.
  • Coupon and promotional offers.
  • Clearance sale calculations.
  • Business price reductions.
  • Comparing different discount offers.

Worked Discount Examples

20% off $80: the discount is $16, so the price after discount is $64. 15% off $120: the discount is $18, leaving $102. 50% off $39.99: the discount is about $20.00 and the resulting price is about $19.99 after normal currency rounding.

The calculator applies one percentage discount to the entered original price. Sales tax, shipping, coupons, stacked discounts, fees, and currency conversion are not added automatically.

Does the Discount Calculator include sales tax?
