How to Use the Hours Worked Calculator

The calculator first converts the clock-in and clock-out times into minutes. It calculates the total shift duration, subtracts your unpaid break, and then converts the result back into hours and minutes.

Calculate the time between clock in and clock out, then subtract the unpaid lunch break. For example, an 8-hour shift with a 30-minute unpaid lunch equals 7 hours 30 minutes of worked time.
How many hours is 9 AM to 5 PM with a 30-minute lunch?
9 AM to 5 PM is 8 hours. After subtracting a 30-minute unpaid lunch, the result is 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.50 decimal hours.
Does this calculator work for night shifts?
Yes. If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator automatically assumes the shift ended on the following day.
Is 7 hours 30 minutes equal to 7.30 hours?
No. Thirty minutes is half of one hour, so 7 hours 30 minutes equals 7.50 decimal hours.
Should I enter paid breaks?
No. Enter only break time that should be deducted from your worked hours. Paid breaks should not be subtracted.
