What Is an Image Resizer?
An image resizer changes the pixel dimensions of an image. For example, an image measuring 1920 × 1080 pixels can be resized to 1280 × 720 pixels.
Reducing image dimensions can also reduce storage and bandwidth requirements, although final file size depends on the image, format and quality settings.
How to Resize an Image
- Select a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Enter your desired width or height.
- Keep aspect ratio enabled if you want to avoid stretching the image.
- Choose the output format and quality.
- Click Resize Image.
- Preview and download the resized image.
What Does Keep Aspect Ratio Mean?
An image's aspect ratio describes the relationship between its width and height.
When Keep Original Aspect Ratio is enabled, changing the width automatically calculates the corresponding height, and changing the height calculates the corresponding width.
This helps prevent the image from appearing stretched or squeezed.
High-Quality Image Resizing
When an image is reduced significantly, ToolStrive uses progressive resizing steps before creating the final image.
The browser's high-quality image smoothing is also enabled where supported. This can produce cleaner downscaled images than a single large reduction in many situations.
Enlarging a small image cannot recreate detail that was not present in the original, so very large upscaling can still appear soft or pixelated.
JPG, PNG and WebP Output
JPG
JPG is commonly suitable for photographs. Because JPG does not support transparency, transparent areas are placed on a white background by this tool.
PNG
PNG supports transparency and uses lossless image encoding. The quality slider is not applied to PNG output.
WebP
WebP supports efficient image compression and transparency in compatible browsers.
Resize or Convert?
Resizing changes pixel dimensions. If your dimensions are already correct and you only need a JPG, PNG or WebP version, use the Image Format Converter instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep the aspect ratio lock enabled. When one dimension changes, the matching dimension is calculated proportionally so the image keeps its original shape.
Can I choose a different output format?
Yes. The resizer provides supported output-format options such as JPG, PNG or WebP, depending on the browser and selected settings.
Does resizing an image usually reduce its file size?
Often yes, because a smaller image contains fewer pixels. Final file size also depends on the image content, output format and quality setting.
